Inside the Aya Sofya, Church of the Divine Wisdom (Hagia Sofia in Greek, Sancta Sophia in Latin). Construction was initiated by the Byzantine emperor Justinian in 532 AD. It was superseded by the St Peters's Chapel in Rome almost 1000 years later as the largest house of worship in the world. The Arabic panels were added when the building was converted into a mosque in 1453.
